How do I connect Salesforce Marketing Cloud?
This connection uses Fivetran.
You need administrator access to the Marketing Cloud business unit you want to connect. Each business unit, including child units, needs its own connection. Mobile and SMS data also require the corresponding MobilePush, Mobile Connect and SMS Channel features.
Create an API integration
- In the correct business unit, open Setup → Platform Tools → Apps → Installed Packages → New. Name and save a package.
- Open it and select Add Component → API Integration → Server-to-Server.
- Grant these package permissions, then save:
| Access | Components |
|---|---|
| Read | Campaign; Documents and Images; Email; Journeys; List and Subscribers; OTT; Push; Saved Content; SMS; Social; Web |
| Read and Write | Data Extensions |
| Read, Write and Execute | Automations |
Copy the Client ID and Client Secret. For an enhanced package, also copy the subdomain from its Authentication Base URI: the YOUR_SUBDOMAIN part of https://YOUR_SUBDOMAIN.auth.marketingcloudapis.com/.
Find your business unit’s Marketing Cloud ID (MID) in Marketing Cloud. Search that MID at Salesforce Status and note the Marketing Cloud (Stack) instance.
Set up SFTP for tracking extracts
Tracking Extracts requires SFTP credentials. You can skip this section if you choose SOAP and do not use SFTP for data extensions.
- Open Setup → Administration → Data Management → FTP Accounts. Note the host and port.
- Select Create User, enter an email address and password, and note the generated FTP username. Choose Password authentication.
- Grant View Files on the root folder. On the Export folder, grant View Files, Download Files and Edit Files. Save the user.
Creating an FTP user can reset the source import location to its default; check any existing imports and automations afterwards.
Complete the Filament connection
- Open Apps and add Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
- Enter the Client ID and Client Secret, and select the Marketing Cloud instance. For an enhanced package, enable Is Enhanced Installed Package and enter its subdomain.
- Choose Tracking Extracts or SOAP as the event sync method. This choice cannot be changed after setup. Choose all events or select the event types to include.
- Set the historical period. If you choose a specific start date, enter it in Historic Sync Limit Date.
- For SFTP, enable Provide SFTP credentials and enter the host, port, username and password from the FTP account. Leave key-pair login off for this password-based setup.
- If shown, choose standardised destination names or original source names before the first sync; source naming is incompatible with Quickstart transformations.
- Select Save & Test. If the test says Data Extension Extract is not enabled, ask Salesforce Marketing Cloud Support to enable it. Once the tests pass, return to Filament and complete setup.
